Barry Jon Paghi, 38, 15 year veteran of the Lorain Police Department

Barry Jon Paghi, age 38, of Lorain, died suddenly Saturday, June 12, 2004 at his home.

He was born June 18, 1965 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of the city.

Barry was a member of the Ohio National Guard and fulfilled a multitude of assignments there including a tour of duty in Honduras. He was a 15 year veteran of the Lorain Police Department; he began in the patrol division and was later assigned to the detective bureau. He rejoined the patrol division after being promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was also a member of the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain. His hobbies included electronics, woodworking, and art. Additional interests included dogs and cats.

Mr. Paghi is survived by his mother: Wilma (nee Binder) of Lorain; brothers: Daniel W. Paghi of Amherst, Mark of Dallas, Texas, and Thomas of Lakewood; sisters: Patti Ann Paghi of Lorain, and Danielle Paghi; and her son: Tyler of Avon; and maternal grandparents: Daniel Paghi, Sr. and Mary (Ciupaska) Paghi.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluva-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church; 5100 Ashland Avenue with the Rev. Kevin Saylor, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
