Andrew F. DeAngelis, 80, He enjoyed dancing, golfing, and bowling and participated in many bowling leagues.

Andrew F. “Andy” DeAngelis, 80, of Lorain, died Saturday June 19, 2004 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born July 21, 1923 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. He was a graduate of the Lorain High School Class of 1941B. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in Company B 202nd Engineer Combat Battalion.

Mr. DeAngelis worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain as an electrician retiring in 1989. He served as president of the following organizations: United Steel Workers Local #1104, Golden Age Pensioners, AFL-CIO and St. Peter Senior Citizens group. He was a member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain, Disabled American Veterans Post Louis Paul Proy Post #20 in Lorain and SOAR. Mr. DeAngelis was an active member of the Lorain Democratic Party and served as a precinct committee person. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where he served on church council fro three years. He enjoyed dancing, golfing, and bowling and participated in many bowling leagues throughout the city.

He is survived by his sons Dennis DeAngelis and John DeAngelis, both of Lorain, daughters Andrea Sturgill and Donna Petruna, both of Lorain, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, brothers Dominic “Doc” DeAngelis of Lorain, Art DeAngelis of Dandridge, Tennessee, Michael DeAngelis of North Richland Hills, Texas and sister Dena Corrao of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline DeAngelis (nee Mancini), parents Serafino and Angelina DeAngelis (nee Amato) and brothers Frank DeAngelis, Sam DeAngelis Jr. and Charles “Chuck” DeAngelis.

The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 will conduct military honors.
