Gerardo Cruz Cruz, 83, enjoyed gardening and playing Dominoes

He was born April 4, 1921 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico He Lived in Jersey City, New Jersey for 12 years before coming to Lorain in 1966.
Mr. Cruz retired from ABEX Corp in Elyria in 1982 as a machinist. He worked there for 15 years.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, earning an overseas bar.
Mr. Cruz was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, Saint Vincent De Paul Society, Crucillo Movement, Marriage Encounter and Funeral Committee. He was an usher at the 8:00 AM Mass. Mr. Cruz was a Fiesta volunteer and did building and grounds maintenance. He enjoyed gardening and playing Dominoes.
Among the survivors is his wife of 47 years Iluminada "Lumi" Cruz (nee Ramos); sons Gerardo, Jr., Elvin and Michael Cruz all of Lorain, Angelo Cruz of Bronx, New York and Jose Cepeda of Stafford, Florida; daughters Carmen Ortiz and Maria Cruz Lopez both of Lorain and Diana Cepeda of Cleveland; brother Teofilo Cruz of Lorain; sisters Matilde Cruz and Juanita Colon both of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico and Maria Cruz of Hoboken, New Jersey; 32 grandchildren and 39 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sotero and Angela (nee Lopez) Cruz; son Angel Cepeda; daughter Gloria Cruz and a sister Martha Escobar.
Friends may call Sunday 4:00 and 8:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Monday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 8:45 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend, Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
