Josephine Milbrandt, 93, Enjoyed playing the piano and organ

Josephine Milbrandt (nee Blaha), age 93, of Avon Lake, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Bradley Bay Nursing Home, Bay Village, following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 8, 1911 in Cleveland.

Josephine was a January 1927 graduate of John Adams High School and a graduate of Dyke-Spencerian Business School, both of Cleveland. She moved to Avon Lake in 1947 with her husband, 3 children, and 1 dozen chickens and became known as the Egg Lady in Avon Lake for her back porch business selling eggs. She and her husband also operated a small farm and grape orchard in Avon Lake.

She was a charter member of St. Joseph’s Church, Avon Lake and then in 1965 was a charter member of Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake; and was a member of the Ladies Guild at both. She was also a member of Welch’s Grape Co-op. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, bird-watching, and working cross word puzzles.

Mrs. Milbrandt is survived by a daughter: Jo Grospitch (Jim) of Avon Lake; and two sons: George Milbrandt (Patricia) of Avon Lake, and Jim Milbrandt (Penny) of North Eaton; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: George in 1990; a brother: John F. Blaha; and her parents: John and Josephine (nee Duspiva) Blaha.

Friends may call the Busch-Bermeister Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home Thursday July 1 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Church, 410 Lear Rd. Avon Lake at 10 a.m. Rev. James Beatty, pastor of Holy Spirit Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to a favorite charity of choice.
