Edward B. Wright, 80, US Army Veteran

Edward B. Wright 80 years of age, and a resident of Lorain accepted his invitation into Heaven Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born February 4, 1924 in Grimmslanding, West Virginia and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio. He has been a resident of Lorain for the last 59 years.

Mr. Wright was involved in the Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1939 to 1941. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Japan where he received the bronze star. Edward was employed at U.S. Steel Corp in Lorain for 40 years retiring in 1986 as a lathe operator. After retiring from U.S. Steel Corp, he also worked for the American Red Cross, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the former Euclid Ave. Baptist Church in Lorain and the former Trinity Baptist Church in South Lorain. He has been a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst for twenty-three years where he served as deacon and financial secretary. In addition to raising five children of their own, Edward and his wife have been foster parents to thirteen children.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight: years Luella A. Wright (nee: Coy); his sons, George Eugene Wright of Elyria, Raymond Earl Wright of Lorain, and Brian Edward Wright of Momence, Illinois; his daughters: Sandra "Sandy" S. Prugh of South Euclid and Penny D. Shreve of Wyoming, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and his brother Donald Wright of Gallipolis, Ohio.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Dana and Lena Mae Wright (nee: Cox) and by his brothers Robert Brothers and Eugene Wright.

Friends may call Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard performing honors will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Plogg, pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
