Clarence V. Maurer, 94, Enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening

Clarence V. Maurer, age 94, of Elyria, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a 2 � month illness.

He was born July 12, 1910 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Elyria/Lorain area since 1947.

Mr. Maurer served in the US Army as a military policeman prior to World War II.

He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and then the Lake Terminal Railroad in Lorain as a brakeman and conductor for 32 � years, retiring in 1974.

Mr. Maurer was a member of the Moose Club in Lorain and Altoona, Pennsylvania and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He is survived by his daughters: Carol G. DeLeonardis of Lorain, Elenor L. Kopronica of Lorain, Janet Mamrak of Elyria, Marian Diveley of South Bend, Indiana, Barbara Miller of Elyria, and Sherry Banbury of Lorain; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and sister: Zelda Smith of Lockhaven, Pennsylvania.

Preceding him in death was his wife: Carrie (nee Orwick) on September 14, 2000; son: William L. Maurer; granddaughter: Kimberly Murray (nee Mamrak); grandson: Kevin DeLeonardis; parents: Abraham Lincoln Maurer and Margaret (nee Howard); sisters: Vivian Buchanan, Sylvia Langham, Ethel Maurer, Fawn Maurer, Hazel Maurer, and Fern Burd; and brothers: Clyde, Glen, and Wayne Maurer.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pastor Robert Maurer of Romola Baptist Church in Pennsylvania and nephew of Mr. Maurer will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 will conduct military honors.
