Stanley Frank Piecka, 86, Loved dogs, playing cards, and making crossword puzzles for others
Stanley Frank Piecka, 86 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following an eight-month illness.He was born April 13, 1918 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He moved to Linden, New Jersey in 1952 and has been a resident of Amherst fro the last eight years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 162nd Military Police receiving the American Service Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed as a warehouseman at Mapes Sprawl in New Jersey for 20 years and then for the Walworth Co. for six years. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Stanley loved dogs; playing cards, bowling, baseball, playing the lottery, playing the harmonica, and making crossword puzzles for others.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years; Delphine Caroline Piecka (nee Pilecki), his son; Donald Piecka of Edison, New Jersey, his daughter; Mary Jo Kuhl of Amherst, two grandchildren, and his brother; Frank Piecka of Connecticut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Anthony and Mary Piecka (nee Kmiecik), by his brother; Edward Piecka, and by his sisters Clara Spychalski, Helen Shekletski, and Louise Fud-Jack-Torchia.
Friends may call Tuesday 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will perform honors. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jospeh Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst 44001.
