Bertha E. Barker, 81, Enjoyed bowling, card games, and arts and crafts

Bertha E. Barker (nee Ruminski), 81, of Avon Lake, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon.

Born on February 22, 1923 in Lorain, Mrs. Barker had lived in Lorain County all her life. She had attended Lorain High School and later went to St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1960. She was a LPN for Bay View Hospital in Bay Village for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She had formerly worked at St. John Hospital in Cleveland and had also done private duty nursing.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sheffield Village. She enjoyed bowling, card games, and arts and crafts, including knitting, crocheting and sewing.

She is survived by 1 son- Arthur R. Flew of San Clemente, CA; one daughter- Sandra Kosky of Vermilion; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers- Paul R. Ruminski of Amherst and Theodore Ramsey of Elyria; 2 sisters- Hilda Mohrman of Pittsfield, OH and Mildred Kline of Traverse City, MI.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband- Arthur Flew; her 2nd husband- George Barker; 1 brother- Lou Ramsey; and three sisters; Martha Daley, Esther Friday and Anna Chambers, and her parents; John and Marie (nee-Herwig) Ruminski.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Memorial contributions if desired may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 3601 Green Rd., Cleveland, Ohio 44122.
