George M. Walts, Jr., 63, Hobbies included fishing in Canada, golfing, and camping

George M. Walts, Jr., 63 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York following a short illness.

He was born February 18, 1941 in Cleveland, raised in Sheffield Lake, and graduated from Brookside High School. He has made his home in Amherst for 42 years.

He was employed at the Ford Assembly Plant in Lorain for 36 years, retiring in 2002 as a salaried employee in the computer department. He was a realtor for 15 years with Coldwell Bank, Hunter Reality. He also served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. George was a coach for Lorain Catholic High School girls’ softball from 1980 to 1990. His hobbies included fishing in Canada, golfing, camping, and he was a man that especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years; Loretta Walts (nee Solack), his sons; Clifford G. and Donald J. Walts, both of Amherst, his daughter; Francine Walts Shaeffer of Amherst, five grandchildren, his brother; James Walts of Amherst, and his sister; Barbara Flemming of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; George M. and Ruth Walts, Sr. (nee Aubim).

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
