John F. Mihalic, 75, Avid Outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting

John F. Mihalic, age 75, of Lorain, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a 9 month illness.

Mr. Mihalic was born June 30, 1929 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of the city.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1948 through 1952. He attained the rank of corporal and was attached to the 16th Base Headquarters Detachment. He was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland and later in Guam.

Upon his return from military service, John secured employment with the United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works; He was employed there as a millwright, retiring in 1987 after more than thirty years of service.

John was a parishioner of Saint Vitus Croatian Church and was a social member of the American Slovak Club as well as the Lorain Croatian Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting. He was also a member and former guide for the Beaver Hunt Club of Lorain.

Survivors include his two sisters: Hilda A. Mihalic of Lorain and Mary Shinsky of Amherst; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents: George and Katherine (nee Yalsevac) Mihalic; a brother: George; and by sisters: Barbara Stuller, Diane Mihalic, and Helen Mihalic.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel ~ 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where a parish rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Vitus Catholic Church ~ 1793 East 32nd Street in Lorain. The Reverend Simon Nekic, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
