Julia Swaim, 84, Enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with family

Elyria United Methodist Village Nursing Center after a short illness.

She was born June 7, 1920 in Quitman, Mississippi.

She was raised in Hickory, Mississippi and attended Mississippi Southern College, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She moved to Lorain in 1944. Mrs. Swaim was a teacher for the Lorain City Schools for many years and ended her career as a home economics teacher at Lorain High School. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lorain and was a volunteer for many years at Lorain Community Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a talented seamstress, and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years Randall E. Swaim, daughter Susan Spooner of Alexandria, Virginia, son Randall Swaim Jr. of Ventura, California, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her father, Dr. Martin A. Carter, her mother; Emma ( nee Walker) Carter and brothers James Harvey and Sam T. Carter.

Friends may call on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 10:00 am until memorial service time at 11:00 am in the Elyria United Methodist Village Chapel, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, with Rev. Dalton Love, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Elyria United Methodist Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
