Robert C. Nolan, 83, WWII Veteran
Robert C. Nolan, 83, of Lorain, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community, Amherst following a short illness.He was born on May 4, 1921 in Lenore, West Virginia, moving to this area in 1948.
Mr. Nolan served in the United States Army during World War II. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star and the Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon.
Robert was employed in the Boiler House at Lorain Works US Steel for 34 years, retiring in April of 1983.
He was a member of Broadway Assembly and taught pre-teen Sunday school, for many years. He enjoyed studying the bible.
He is survived by his sons: Charles Nolan, Sr. of Lorain and Thomas Nolan of Lagrange, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-granddaughters and his step-sister: Meredith Brewster, of Columbus, OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years: Bessie L. (nee Kinser) in 1995, parents: Thomas and Agnes (nee Dempsey) Nolan.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Mark Lantz, pastor of Broadway Assembly will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio, where The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #451 and American Legion Post #30, will conduct full military honors.
