Harold T. King Jr., 84, Enjoyed fishing, golf, and bowling

Photo of Harold T. King Jr. Harold T. King, Jr., 84 of Lorain, died on Monday, August 2, 2004 at Community Health Partners & Surgical Center following a short illness.

He was born November 4, 1919 in Wellesville, Ohio and has lived in the Lorain area for the past 55 years.

He was a graduate of Elyria High School Class of 1938. He had worked at American Shipbuilding. Mr. King was a retired postal clerk at the Lorain Post Office with 23 years service when he retired in 1978.

Mr. King was a US Army veteran during WW II. He was assigned to the Tank Destroyer Battalion # 705. He landed in Normandy three days after "D" Day. Mr. King was wounded during the Battle of The Bulge and received a Purple Heart and 4 battle stars.

He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the DAV Louis Proy Post # 20, American Legion Post # 118 of Amherst, VFW Post 1079 of Elyria, Amvets Post # 72 of Vermilion, IAV Post # 1 of Lorain. He served on the Color Guard for the DAV. He was also a member of the Postal Workers Union and the AARP.

He enjoyed fishing, golf and bowling.

Mr. King is survived by his daughter Mary Beth Peters of Lakewood, sons, Harold T. "Ted" King III, of Athens, Ohio, Dennis C. King of Wakeman, Thomas D. King of Rocky River, Ohio, seven grandchildren, brother Donald A. King of Saranac, MI and his companion Shirley Heimann of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife Charlene M. (nee Willis) King in 1987, his parents Harold T and Alice (nee Moor) King, Sr., brothers James M King and Clyde "Jerry" King.

Friends may call at the Christ United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain OH on Thursday, August 5, 2004 from 7-9 pm and on Friday, August 6, 2004 from 11:00 am until funeral time at 1:00 pm at the church.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by the DAV Louis Proy Post # 20.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or the World War II Memorial Fund, American Battle Monuments Commission, ATTN: GR048, PO Box 96074, Washington, DC 20090-6074.
