Henry M. Thompson, 98, of Avon Lake, formerly of Rocky River went home to the Lord August 8, 2004.Mr. Thompson was born July 13, 1906 in Cleveland and had lived in Rocky River for over 30 years, before moving to Independence Village, Avon Lake a year and a half ago.
Mr. Thompson had worked for the Federal Government as an Engineer at the Main Post Office, Cleveland. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1925 to 1929. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Retired Postal Workers and for 30 years. He belonged to St. Christopher Church, Rocky River. He was described by his family as some one who was fascinated with the way things worked and was able to repair anything. He was also described as a quiet, gentle man. He enjoyed reading.
Henry was the oldest of 14 children.
He is survived by his daughter: Dolores Blackburn-Rump (Fred); granddaughters Deborah Jean Blackburn and Cheryl Anne Schackt (Kurt); great grandchildren: Claire and Jack Henry; sisters: Emily and Mary; and brother: Jack.
Preceding him in death his wife of 70 years: Gertrude (nee Miller) in 2002; his parents, Valenty and Mary (neceWorobteski) Tomaszewski, also precede him.
A Prayer Services will be at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon, on Thursday, August 12 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 410 Lear Rd. Avon Lake. Fr. James H. Beatty of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
