Daniel Livchak, 75, World War II Veteran
Daniel Livchak, age 75, of Lorain, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the New Life Hospice Center on St. Joseph following an illness of several years.He was born September 7, 1928 in Lorain.
Daniel attended grade school in Alexandria, Virginia following his family’s relocation to that city; he ultimately graduated from Alexandria High School in 1946.
Following a graduation, Dan enlisted in the United States Navy and fulfilled duty assignments with the Destroyer Service during WWII. After separating from military service, he returned to his native Lorain and embarked on a thirty-three year career as a firefighter with the Lorain City Department.
Mr. Livchak was a social member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 of Lorain.
He is survived by his daughter: Diana Lynn Haskins on Wallbridge, OH; and a granddaughter: Melissa Haskins, also of Wallbridge.
Preceding him in death was his father: Wasyl Livchak in 1988; his mother: Emily ‘’Nila’’ Livchak (nee Varouse); and by twin brother: David in 2000.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel ~ 3224 Broadway Ave. ~ Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Basil Stoyka, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where officers and members of Amvets Post #47 will conduct full military honors.
