Gerald Waites, 65, Enjoyed golfing and woodworking

Gerald Waites, age 65, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 8, 1939 in Cleveland where he was raised and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. He lived in Amherst for 11 years and for the past 7 had resided in Elyria.

Gerald served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He worked for USS Kobe Steel in Lorain for 40 years, retiring as a salesman. He was a member of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, in Amherst where he served as an usher and greeter. He enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking, vacationing in Florida, and playing shuffleboard.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years: Patricia (nee Holmock) Waites; sons: Darryn of Lorain, Todd of Avon Lake, and Chad of Sarasota, Florida; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters: Phyllis Kadlec and Shirley Parsh; and by his parents: Arnold and Viola (ne Riedel) Waites.

A memorial service will be held August 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church ~ 780 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. The Reverend William Mouer, pastor of Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ~ 902 Westpoint Parkway, Suite 300, Cleveland, OH 44145.

Arrangements are being handled by Hempel Funeral Home ~ 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH 44001.
