Nola Jean Hodkey, 76, Acknowledged for many hours of volunteering
Nora Jean Hodkey (nee Waters), age 76, of Lorain, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an extended illness.Mrs. Hodkey was born February 27, 1928 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
She was a graduate of Clearview High School and went on the attend Lorain Business College.
A member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, fishing, and gardening.
Nola was also formerly presented with a Certificate of Commendation by then Secretary of State Bob Taft acknowledging her for countless hours of volunteer service to the Lorain Board of Elections as well as visits to nursing home residents and those shut-in to their homes by illness and infirmity throughout Lorain County.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years: Bernard ‘’Bernie’’ Hodkey; a daughter: Kim Roush of Lorain; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hodkey was preceded in death by a son: Dennis; a daughter: Gayle Sova; her parents: Raymond and Stella (nee Erlich) Waters; a sister: Lois Dovala; and by her brothers: Raymond E. ‘’Cutsy’’ Waters and William Waters.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in First Evangelical Lutheran Church ~ 603 Washington Avenue ~ Lorain. The Reverend Jimmy W. Madsen, co-pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery ~ Lorain.
