Amelia ''Meal'' Bertha Williams, 92, Enjoyed traveling to Europe and going on cruises
Amelia ''Meal'' Bertha Williams (nee Schneider) 92 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst passed away Monday, August 23, 2004 at her home following a brief illness.She was born March 25, 1912, in South Amherst where she was raised and graduated from South Amherst High School in 1929. She lived in Cleveland and Bay Village until 1999 before moving back to the home where she was born in South Amherst.
Amelia graduated from Fairview Park School of Nursing in 1933. She then worked for Fairview Hospital for 42 years, retiring in 1976 as an emergency room charge nurse. She also did industrial nursing for the Eite Sewing Corp. in Cleveland. She was a life time member of St. John United Church of Christ South Amherst where she was part of the Women's Guild and Evening Circle.
She was also a member of the Chatterettes Club and Stone City Chapter #325 of the Amherst Eastern Stars and was active in the South Amherst School Alumni. She cared for her family and friends during their times of illness. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and going on cruises.
Survivors include many nephews and nieces including her niece and guardian Eileen Oildzen of South Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years: Charles Edward Williams on January 13, 1973; her brothers: Fred (1-3-94), Herbert (12-5-90), Walter, Harold (7-28-79), Albert (2-27-92), Edward (12-18-91) and infant twins: Herman and Walter Schneider; her sisters, Flora Palmer (5-15-04), Florence Oildzen(3-4-99), Margaret Schneider(10-7-76) and Martha Brooker (1-7-73); her parents, Ernst (1951) and Rosa (1947) (nee Bauman) Schneider.
Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., in Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ 416 Leonard St., South Amherst. Rev. Paul D. Eaton, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst OH.
