Evelyn Cruz, 61, Active member of Sacred Heart Chapel
Evelyn (nee Rivera) Cruz, age 61, of Lorain, died on Friday, September 3, 2004 at her residence, while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on June 11, 1943 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, living in Lorain since 1966.
Evelyn was employed as a home health aide at Lorain Manor Nursing Home then at Bradley Road Health Center, retiring in 1986.
She was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She was a member of the Society Las Dames, where she volunteered in the kitchen.
Mrs. Cruz is survived by her husband of 39 years: Alfredo, daughter: Yolanda Bond, of Chesapeake, Virginia; 2 grandchildren; brothers: Wilson Rivera of California, George Rivera of Lorain, Raymond Melendez of Ponce, Puerto Rico and Santiago Rivera, of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Santiago and Joquina (nee Torres) Rivera; brothers: Victor Rivera in 2001, Pedro Rivera in 2001 and sister: Angela Cortijo in 1980.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain and also on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
