Mary J. Whorley, 71, Enjoyed crafts and reading

She was born on December 25, 1932 in Leckie, West Virginia. She had lived in Lorain since 1954 coming from West Virginia.
Mary had been employed as a nurse's assistant at St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain for 25 years and had volunteered at the St. Joseph Hospital Thrift Shop. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, and reading novels.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Kathy J. Dziak, Karen S. Whorley, both of Lorain; 3 sons: Michael W. Whorley, Martin D. Whorley both of Tennessee, and Mark A. Whorley, of Lorain; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; and 2 brothers: Eugene Spriggs and Thomas Spriggs, both of Maryland and 1 sister: Frieda Fletcher, of Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whorley was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years: Lewis M. in 1999; parents: Garrett Spriggs and Lacey W. (nee McCrosky); 5 sisters: Mae Miller, Cora Taylor, Francis Hunt, Janice Miller and Helen Bowen; brother: Carl Spriggs; and 1 grandson: Matthew Jarred Dziak.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. William Schill, deacon of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
