Wilma N. Castle, 86, Nurse, loving, generous, and caring woman

Wilma N. Castle, (nee Von Benken) age 86, a long-time resident of Cuyahoga County, died Friday September 10, 2004 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Community in Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born in Garfield Heights, Ohio on June 23, 1918 and bad been a resident of Lorain County since October of 2003 moving to the Elyria Retirement Community from Seven Hills to be closer to her daughter, Irene.

She was a graduate of John Adams High School and went on to complete studies at the Saint Alexis Hospital School of Nursing where she received license as a Registered Nurse following her graduation in 1939.

Wilma was a past member of Saint Timothy's Carbolic Church in Garfield Heights, Saint Columbkille Catholic Church in Parma, and most recently attended the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain. She was active in a multitude of church organizations as well as the parent associations of Saint Timothy's Parish School, Notre Dame Academy, Cathedral Latin High School, and Marymount.

Mrs. Castle was known as a loving, generous, and caring woman who always helped her family, friends, neighbors, and anyone else who was in need of her nursing knowledge and professional care. She was extremely proud to have raised her four children in a dwelling that sat just one home away from her parents' original homestead.

She is survived by daughters: Noreen A. Bryant-Tabb-Martin, Irene B. Castle-Missal, and Margaret-Mary (Mimi) Castle; son: Robert W. Castle; grandmother of two, and great grandmother of one.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank R. Castle in 1988; by a grandson: Dwight P. Bryant, Jr.; by her parents: William B. and Stella (nee Slaby) Von Benken; and a brother: William H. Von Benken.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel ~ 3224 Broadway ~ Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter ~ 3501 Oberlin Avenue ~ Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial rites will be observed Thursday at 12 p.m. in All Saint Cemetery Northfield, Ohio with the Reverend Neil O'Connor, pastor of Saint Columbkille Catholic Church officiating.
