Federico Cuevas, Sr., 80, WWII Army Veteran
Federico Cuevas Sr., 80, of Lorain, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at Lorain Manor Nursing Facility, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
Born October 1, 1923 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1949.
Mr. Cuevas served in the US Army during World War II. He worked as a fruit picker and laborer for Petersons Greenhouse for 10 years. Prior to that, he worked at Lorain Works US Steel for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving is his wife: Jacinta (nee Alicea); sons: Ramon Cuevas and Fred Cuevas Jr. both of Lorain, and Angel Cuevas of Cleveland; daughters: Margarita Gomez of Elyria, and Aida Cuevas of Lorain; 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a brother: Francisco Cuevas of Aricebo, Puerto Rico; sisters: Amelia Santiago and Maria Alicea both of Utuado, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Alejandro Cuevas and Victoria (nee Nieves) Cuevas; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10 a.m. Rev. Tony DeGracia, deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
