Andrew S. Sechkar, 90, Served in US Army during WWII
Andrew S. Sechkar, 90 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, September 13, 2004 at Life Care Center of Elyria, following a lengthy illness.He was born August 10, 1914 in Benwood, WV, was raised in the Lorain area and graduated from Brookside High School in the class of 1933. He had made his home in Amherst for the past 51 years.
He worked as an Engineer in the Electrical Construction Department of the First Energy Corporation (formerly The Ohio Edison Company), for 42 years retiring in 1979. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst. He served in the U. S. Army in WW II, was involved in The Boy Scouts, an instructor for First Aid and CPR classes for the Red Cross. He was involved in the Senior Citizens of Amherst and AARP of Amherst.
Survivors include his sons: William A. (Margie) Sechkar of Wakeman, Ohio and Daniel R. (Debby) Sechkar of Athens, Ohio; and daughter: Molly (Mrs. Dominic) Pancini of Newark, Ohio; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a sister: Mary Sherban of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Frances L. (nee Emmons) Sechkar who died March 27, 2002; his parents: Steve and Katherine (nee Diviak) Sechkar; brothers: John, Steve and two who died in infancy; and two sisters: Hedvig Sechkar and Teresa Simon.
Friends are invited to celebrate Andy's life Saturday, September 18, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, Ohio.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Heart of Ohio Council Boy Scouts of America, P0 Box 368, Ashland, OH 44805-0368, or to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW. 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136.
In accordance with Andy's wishes, cremation arrangements were handled by the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH 44001.
