Dale E. Barnard, 80, Attorney, Major in the Army Reserves
Dale E. Barnard, 80, of Avon Lake died Monday, September 13, 2004 in Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Westlake.He was born August 7, 1924 in Belleview, Ohio. He lived in Elyria for two years before moving to Avon Lake in 1957.
Mr. Barnard served in the Army during World War II in Germany and Belgium and was a Major in the Army reserves.
He was a graduate of Heidelberg College, received his master's degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Cleveland Marshall Law School.
Mr. Barnard was an attorney who retired from private practice in 2001. He practiced for 44 years. He served as Avon Lake law director from 1970 to 1984 and Sheffield Lake law director for two terms. He was an employment manager with the Freuhauf Trailer Company in Avon Lake before joining William B. Saxbe as assistant Ohio attorney general. He was a member of the Ohio, Cleveland and served on the executive committee of the Lorain County Bar associations. Mr. Barnard was also a member of American Legion and the V. F. W. and Toastmasters. He enjoyed traveling especially to Europe, fine automobiles and boating. Mr. Bernard was a benefactor of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Among the survivors is his wife of 30 years: Ann Van Den Bossche of Avon Lake; daughter: Melissa O'Connor of Avon Lake; sons: Kurt W. Barnard of Lorain, Myles E. Barnard of Wixom, Michigan and a step-son: attorney A. C. Van Den Bossche of Avon Lake; seven Grandchildren and two great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Elizabeth J. Barnard (nee Nyerges) in 1972; his parents: Charles and Dorothy (nee Billman) Barnard; and a brother: Clair V. Barnard in 1985
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, where funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m.
Reverend Mr. Juan "Rocky" Ortiz, permanent deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River. Veterans of Foreign Wars post 9871of North Ridgeville will conduct military honors.
