Frances V. Maslyk, 96, Expert Seamstress

Photo of Frances V. Maslyk Frances V. Maslyk, (nee Varouse), age 96, of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on December 16, 1907 in Lorain and graduated Lorain High School with the class of 1927. During World War II she resided in Mexico, England, France and Holland. She lived in Michigan and Massachusetts before moving to Whiting, Indiana. She lived in Houston, Texas for 42 years and for the past 2 years she lived in Sagamore Hills, OH.

Mrs. Maslyk was a member of St. Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland. An expert seamstress, she was active in the Russian Orthodox Church, and a garden club. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and sewing.

Frances is survived by her brother: Venny J. Varouse, of Lorain; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years: Frank in 1993; brother: Frank Jr., in 1998; sisters: Nionila Emily Livchak in 1981, Violet Belasco, in 1986 and Darlene Brenner.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 16, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where a parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Very Rev. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, pastor of Ss Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
