Albert J. "Al" Polosky, 55, Former military policeman in the US Army

Photo of Albert J. Albert J. "Al" Polosky, age 55, of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a prolonged illness.

Born July 21, 1949 in Spangler, PA, he lived in Nanty-Glo, PA, before coming to Lorain 38 years ago. He was a 1967 graduate of Lorain High School, and then served in the US Army from 1972 to 1975 as a military policeman in the 101st airborne division. He worked as an electrician for Republic Technologies Incorporated (formerly Kobe Steel), Lorain for 35 years.

Al was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, where he was a past usher and a head volunteer for bingo. He is a past member of the Lorain County Sheriffs Auxiliary, and a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. For many years, he assisted in coaching T-ball and baseball for the Lorain Youth Baseball. He is a uniform ranked fourth degree knight and past treasurer of the Knights of St. John International, St. Mary Commandery # 281 of Lorain. He served as den leader for cub scouts, past president and treasurer of the Lorain Steelworkers Golf League, and past president of the Lorain Steelworkers Bowling League.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, cooking and working with stain glass, having made many lamps, windows, and sun catchers. He was especially passionate about his 2003, 50th Anniversary Edition, Chevrolet Corvette.

Surviving is his wife of 34 years: Kathy (nee Sofranko); sons: Jason of Lorain, and Albert II "A.J." of Stow; daughters: Chrystal Grasso of Lorain, and Cara Muraco of Sheffield Village; 6 grandchildren; his step-mother: Jean Gore of Lorain; sisters: Juanita Stevens of Nanty-Glo, PA, Elizabeth Koss of Conemaugh, PA, and Lorelei Ondo of Lorain, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John J. Polosky and Marguerite (nee Kovach) Polosky; and his step-father: John F. Gore.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
