Edward Paul Cook, 79, US Army veteran and World War II P.O.W.

Lodge Nursing Home following a long illness.
Mr. Cook was born on January 30, 1925 in Lorain and was a life time resident.
He graduated from Lorain High School class of 1943A. He served as high school student council president, sang in the a cappella choir for 3 years, played baseball and basketball. He was active in the organization of his high school reunions and breakfast outings which is still meeting on a regular basis.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a World War II P.O.W. in Germany. He was a corporal with the 120th infantry and the "fighting 69th". He earned the American Theater Service ribbon, EAME Theater Service Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Distinguished Unit Badge and Victory Medal #2.
Mr. Cook was employed for 42 years with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, Avon Lake plant in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the Christian Temple, Disciples of Christ, Over the Hill Gang, Senior fellowship bowling, Barb Wire Buckeyes, past officer of Local 270 utilities workers union.
Mr. Cook was a fixture on the Lorain youth sports scene. He was a coach and manager in Little League and Hot Stove baseball. He also coached 2 Christian Temple church league championship teams. He was a long time avid league bowler at Rebman's Recreational Lanes. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid fan of Cleveland Professional sports teams.
He is survived by his wife: Corrine (nee Young) Cook; sons: Thomas P. Cook of Pierpont, Ohio, Donald G. Cook of Vermilion, Jack Cook of Amherst; daughter: Polly Cook of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren; sisters: Betty O'Connor of Lorain and Thelma Johannson of Gainesville FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Scott and Bertha O. (nee Woldford) Cook and a brother William Cook.
Friends may call on Friday, September 17th, 2004, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer and Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 18th, 2004 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park with full military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 451.
