Edward Niemiec, 76, Electrician

Edward Niemiec, age 76, of Lorain, died Thursday, September 16, 2004 in the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an extended illness.

Mr. Niemiec was born April 21, 1928 in Lorain and had been a life long resident of the city. He was a graduate of Lorain High School.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain, he was employed as an electrician for the Ohio Edison Company. He retired from that position in 1987 following forty–five years of service with the company. He was a member of the Ohio Edison Men’s Club.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Amherst Outdoor Life Club. Additional interests included gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years: Betty (nee Elenin), by sons: Ronald of Lorain and Donald of Seattle, Washington, sisters: Stephanie Dupuie of Dearborn, Michigan and Helen Masterson of Rockledge, Florida, brother: John Niemiec of North Ridgeville, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Katherine (nee Nosal) Niemiec, by a sister: Mary Flontek and by a brother: Andrew.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 19, 2004 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
