Peter D. Siska, 81, WWII US Army Veteran

Peter D. Siska, 81, of Lorain died Thursday, September 16, 2004 in Community Health Partners Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 29, 1923 in Buffalo, New York. He came to Lorain in 1958. He was a Lorain resident of 48 years.

Mr. Siska retired as general foreman in 1978 from the of Lorain Ford Assembly Econoline plant, Lorain. He worked for ford for 32 years. After his retirement he was employed as a driver for Bischoff Limousine, Lorain.

He served in the Army in World War II. He fought with the Company B, 1710 Signal Corps Battalion as a radio operator. He earned the EAME ribbon with four bronze stars in Naples, Rome, North Apennines, and Po Valley. He also received the Good Conduct Metal and a meritorious unit award.

He was a member of Saint Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a life member of Amvets post 47, Lorain, Veterans of Foreign War post 451, Lorain and the Disabled American Veterans, chapter 20, Lorain, American Legion post 12, Elyria. He enjoyed flying model airplanes. He was an avid angler, golfer, and Cleveland sports fan.

Among the survivors are her daughters Sandy Kalo of Elyria, Doreen Jubick of Lorain and Maureen Stempf of Torrance, PA, sons Michael J. Siska of Arlington TX and Mark S. Siska of Elyria; brothers Joseph Krywanny of Amherst, Frank Siska of Reno, Nevada, Billy Siska Cheektowaga, New York, Henry Siska of Lancaster, New York, John Siska of Huron, Ohio; sister Mary Stankowsky of Cheektowaga, New York and 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Rita (nee Wilfrom) Siska in June 2000, parents Imro and Margaret (nee Solczany) Siska and a sister Claire Krysinski in April 2002.

Friends may call Sunday 4-8 p.m. at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday with closing prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Ladislaus Church East 29th Street and Wood Avenue, Lorain. With the Reverend Father James Schmitz, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.

The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the American Lung Association of Ohio's South Shore, 226 St E Norwalk Rt. 61, Norwalk, Ohio or Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, 3601 South Green Road, Suite 100 Cleveland, Ohio 44122.
