Edward Bak, 82, Enjoyed local sports teams and outdoor activities

Edward Bak, age 82, of Amherst, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born February 25, 1922 in Detroit, MI and was reared in Poland. He returned to the US in 1948.

Mr. Bak was a long-time member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. He was a member of Steelworkers Local #1104 and was an avid fisherman and gardener and enjoyed the local sports teams and all outdoor activities.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Mary Jean Bak (nee Stigel); sons: Philip of Amherst, and Daniel and his wife Lora of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; grandchildren: Sarah Bak and Matthew Bak; and brothers and sisters in Poland.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ignacy and Veronica (nee Lis) Bak.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Dybo, deacon, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
