Edmund C. Gargasz, 83, US Navy WWII Veteran
Edmund C. Gargasz, age 83, of Lorain, died Tuesday September 21, 2004 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West after being stricken at his home.Mr. Gargasz was born in Lorain on November 16, 1920 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He graduated from Lorain High School and went on to serve as a Machinists Mate 2nd Class in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return from military service he secured employment with the TRW Corporation. He retired from that entity in 1976 following twenty-nine years of service. Ed re-entered the workforce several years later serving as an aircraft mechanic with Air Central operating out of Lorain County Regional Airport. While serving at Air Central he completed his training and received certification at Air Frame School.
A parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, he was an avid classic and antique automobile enthusiast. Additional interests included attending swap meets, hunting, fishing, gardening, and the company of his grandchildren.
He is survived by sons: Edmund F. and John D. Gargasz of Lorain, James B. Gargasz of Birmingham, daughters: Annette M. Bedell of Mandeville, Louisiana and Norma Jean Gargasz of Tucson, Arizona, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brother: Eugene Gargasz of Elyria Township, and sister; Ann Suleski of Lorain
He was preceded in death by his wife: Anne (nee Urban) in 1988, granddaughter; Jennifer Lynn Gargasz, by his parents: Frank and Epilonia (nee Bid) Gargasz, and by a brother: Joseph.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Kevin C. Shemuga, pastor of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain where military honors will be conducted by the officers and members of V.F.W. Post # 1079 of Elyria.
