Martha Ellen Griffith, 93, Formerly of Amherst

She was born March 28, 1911 in Fairchance, Pennsylvania. She moved to Brownhelm Township in 1948. She was a resident of Amherst for forty-one years prior to moving in with her daughter in Grafton in 2003.

Martha was a homemaker and affiliated with Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Amherst. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed watching TV sports, gardening, and crocheting.

Survivors include her son: Donald Griffith of Amherst; her daughter Lois Johnson of Grafton; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Eugene Robbins Griffith on May 15, 2003; by her daughter: Linda Sue Griffith in August 1987; by her parents Grover and Lena Goodwin (nee: Pickenpaugh); by her great-great granddaughter: Marissa Salinas in 2002; by her brother Frank Goodwin in 1947; and by her sister Hazel Ruth Goodwin at age one.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Karen Heyburn, pastor of Park Ave. United Methodist Church in Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
