Marie A. Purvis, 76, Loved animals

Marie A. Purvis (nee Gibson), 76, of Sheffield Township, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Amherst Hospital.

She was born August 15, 1928 in Amherst, and was a resident of Sheffield Township most of her life.

Mrs. Purvis worked in the admitting and billing departments of the former St. Joseph Hospital for over 20 years, retiring in 1979.

She was a member of the Queen City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Lorain, where she was a Past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Purvis was also active with Citizens Band Radio, where she was known as "Sandpiper".

Marie loved animals, and was especially fond of cats. She also enjoyed crocheting and baking cakes.

She is survived by a brother: Don Gibson of Texas and 3 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Tom Purvis in 1978; her companion: Ray Blackford in 1997; and a brother, Ed Gibson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where the Queen City Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star will conduct a memorial service at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. The Reverend Laurie Miller, pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be private.
