Edward R. Tappan, 92, Life Long Fan of Ohio State, Notre Dame and Lorain High School Sports
Edward R. Tappan, 92 of Lorain died on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Ohio Extended Care Center in Lorain, OH following a long illness.Mr. Tappan was born on January 17, 1913, in Lorain, OH and attended Catholic Schools and Lorain High School.
He was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain. He was a decorated WW II Army veteran, receiving three Purple Hearts for wounds received in the Philippines.
After the War he worked at the Colson Company in Elyria and then at Lorain Products. He retired in the early 1980s.
He was a life member of the Amvets Post # 47. He participated in the bowling team and the softball team. He was a member of the Amvet's State Softball Championship team from Lorain in the early 1950s. He was a life long fan of Ohio State, Notre Dame and Lorain High School sports teams.
He is survived by his niece and caregivers Ken and Shirley Butler of Amherst, two other nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Tappan is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Louise (nee Hertz) Tappan, sisters Helen Bobel and Mary Jensen.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2005, at 10:00 am in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH with Rev. John J. Kline, pastor emeritus of St. Mary Church officiating. Full military burial honors will be provided by the Amvets Post # 47.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit at Ohio Extended Care Nursing Home, 3354 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
