Helen Kucia, 95, Avid gardner
Helen V. Kucia (nee Kowalski), age 95, of Lorain, died Sunday March 20, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an extended illness. Mrs. Kucia was born on October 18, 1909 in Claridge, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain since 1913.Helen was formerly employed as an assembler for Bendix-Westinghouse and General Industries both of Elyria.
She was an active parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Legion of Mary.
She was also an avid gardener
Survivors include her daughters: Charlene Kufel and Laurette Janasko both of Lorain, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank in 1988, by her son: Rev. Frank Kucia, former pastor of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church, in 1989 and by her sister: Clara Salatnai and Lottie Leboda.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Lorain, where a rosary service will be conducted by officers and member of the Saint Stanislaus Altar & Rosary Society at 3:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:30 in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church 2702 Elyria Avenue Lorain. The Reverend Kevin C. Shemuga, pastor of Saint Stanislaus Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
