Janet M. Ruth, 78, Active Volunteer

Janet M. Ruth (nee: Carroll), 78 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away March 23, 2005 at Community Health Partners H&S Center following a brief illness.

She was born August 20, 1926 in Elyria where she was raised. She was a graduate of Oberlin Business College. She had made her home in South Amherst for the past fifty-seven years.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was a member of the First United Congregational Church of South Amherst where she was very active. Janet was a former church organist, served as the church historian, former Sunday School teacher and choir member. She loved flowers and was a member of the Ohio Dahlia Society. She was an active volunteer in her community and with South Amherst and Firelands Schools.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Glenn Ruth; her son Emil H. Ruth of Henrietta Township, Ohio, her daughters Linda Deichler of Birmingham, Stephanie Ruth and Molly Ruth both of South Amherst; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Bertha Carroll (nee: Quaid); and by her childhood sister Maxine.

Friends may call Monday, March 28, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Celebration services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Arthur and Ann Wiegand, of the First United Congregational Church of South Amherst, and Rev. Marry Ellen Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Ireland Cancer Center, Attn: Research-Development Office, 1100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-5065.
