Anna Helen Hurd, 89, Enjoyed Baking and Quilting

Anna Helen Hurd (nee: Greszler), 89 years of age, and a resident of Henrietta Township passed away April 3, 2005 at her daughter’s home following a brief illness.

She was born November 12, 1915 in Henrietta Township where she lived her entire lifetime.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Anna was employed as a clerk at the Firelands Country Store and was active with employment outside the home. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oberlin and was active with the Alter and Rosary society. She was an active member of the Grange, Ladies Auxiliary Moose Lodge in Elyria and 4-H Club in Henrietta.

She enjoyed baking, quilting and was an accomplished seamstress. She took pride in her manicured flower beds and gardens. She was an advocate for higher education.

Survivors include her son Dezso Sablack of Vermilion; her daughters Ronda Gregg of New Hampshire, Annette McCarty of Henrietta Township, Mary Waltz of Maine, Marie Banks of Carlisle Township, Sandra Ferguson of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her brothers Joseph Gressler and Dezo Greszler both of Henrietta Township, Alex Greszler of Arizona, Paul Greszler of Arkansas, her sisters Florence Snow of West Virginia; Evelyn Giguere of Maine, Caroline Bradford of Texas, Virginia Princie of Maine and her dog Ziggy CoCo.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Harold J. Hurd on July 7, 1989; by her parents Stephan Greszler in 1973 and Anna Greszler (nee: Szabo) in 1985; her granddaughter Michelle Brand in 1990; her brothers Peter Greszler, Frank Greszler; her sisters Margaret Holomuzski and Teresa Greszler.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 6, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at Hempel Funeral Home followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 W. Lorain Street, Oberlin. The Rev. Fr. William Padavick, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the hospice of their choice.
