Steven W. Dzubak, 82, World War II Navy Veteran
Steven W. Dzubak, age 82, of Lorain, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in a residential care facility following a one year illness.Mr. Dzubak was born in Hecla, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain since the mid 1940’s.
Steve was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a seaman during World War II aboard the USS Turner and the USS P.C.E. He was the recipient of the Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the American Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.
Upon his return from military service in 1946 he relocated to Lorain, Ohio. In 1947 he secured employment with the National Tube Company (predecessor to the U.S. Steel Corporation) and served there as a boilermaker for more than thirty-six years. He retired from the steel maker’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works in 1983.
Mr. Dzubak was a member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW (Lorain), a member of American Legion Post # 30 of Lorain, as well as a member of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans. He also held social memberships in the United Polish Club of Lorain, the Polish-American Citizens’ Club of Lorain, and the American Slovak Club of Lorain.
A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, his hobbies included fishing, vegetable gardening, playing cards, and golf.
Survivors include two daughters, his brother George residing in Michigan, and sisters: Ann Nahrbecki, Margie McDowell, and Dorothy Foriska all of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his wife: Irene (nee Doslak) in 1976, by his parents: John and Mary (nee Hostinsky) Dzubak, by brothers: John, Mike, Andrew, and Joseph, and by his sister: Mary Good.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005, from 9:30 a.m.until time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m.in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, associate pastor of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain where officers and members of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW and American Legion Post # 30 of Lorain will conduct full military honors.
