Paul E. Rigda, 94, Ardent Cleveland Indians Fan

He was born July 17, 1910 in Alfonse Furnace, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain for the past eighty years.

A veteran of the United States Merchant Marine, Mr. Rigda was previously employed as a welder for the Freuhauf Trailer Company in Avon Lake. He then joined the U.S. Steel Corporation where he began service as a spark tester; he was later elevated to the role of quality control technician in the Bar Mill from which he retired in 1980.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain, Paul was an avid sports enthusiast and an ardent fan of the Cleveland Indians.

He is survived by a son: Paul M. Rigda of Amherst, a daughter: Carolyn Zilch of Vermilion, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a brother Edward Rigda of Lorain.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 9:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter – 3501 Oberlin Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv. Associate Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Saint Peter School Endowment Trust or the Saint Peter School Scholarship Fund both in care of 3601 Oberlin Avenue – Lorain, Ohio 44053.
