Marcella ''Marcy'' Demyan, 70, Active Parishioner of Saint Nicholas Church

Marcella “Marcy” Demyan, (nee Straka), age 70, of Lorain, died Tuesday, April 5th at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Marcy was born May 30, 1934 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

She attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School and went on to graduate from Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1951.

A former employee of the Sun Finance Company of Lorain, Mrs. Demyan was an active parishioner of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain She was involved in a wide variety of church activities including singing with the church choir for many years.

She was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge # 77, the Polish National Alliance of North America, and the National Slovak Society Lodge.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening, and ceramics. Additional interests included collecting birds and Seraphim Angels. She enjoyed travel and the company of her family and grandchildren, and participated in both league golf and bowling competition throughout the area.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years: George M. Demyan, sons: Robert G. of Oberlin, Ronald G. of Akron, five grandchildren, brothers: Steve Straka, Jr. of Davisville, West Virginia, Ronald Straka of Cuyahoga Falls, and a sister: Mary Ann Hartman of Wellington.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Steve and Helen (Nee Smith) Straka, and a grandson: Michael J. Demyan.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain where a Parastas service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday beginning with a Panachida at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by Funeral Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church – 2711 West 40th Street – Lorain. Reverend Father David A. Hannes, J.C.L., pastor of Saint Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Flushing, Michigan will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
