Rita S. Gochnour, 87, Homemaker and Mother
Rita S. Gochnour (nee: Tomasek), 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005 at her home following a brief illness.She was born December 2, 1917 in Lorain where she was raised. She has been a resident of Amherst for the last fifty-five years.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she was a member of the Amherst Democratic Women’s Club, the Lorain County Federation of Democratic Women, Senior Citizens of Amherst, and AARP. She enjoyed bowling on leagues, gardening, traveling, cooking and baking.
Survivors include her son, Harvey Gochnour of Amherst, her daughter Elizabeth Gochnour of Lorain; two grandchildren; one step grandchild and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Harvey Gochnour in 1989; by her parents John Frank and Nathalie E. Tomasek (nee: Nobozny); by her brothers Eugene and Larry Tomasek; and by her sisters Henrietta Jody Gray, Angela Bromley, and Marie Ann Tomasek.
Friends may call Monday, April 18, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Charles Hinkley, of Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
