Violet I. Snyder, 92, Clerk at Grant Department Store

Violet I. Snyder (nee Thomas), 92, of Lorain, died Monday April 18, 2005 at Ohio Extended Care Center in Lorain.

She was born January 28, 1913 in Alderson, West Virginia and had resided in Lorain for the past 75 years.

During World War II, Violet worked at US Steel in Lorain as a crane operator and continued working there for 9 years. Later she worked at W.T. Grant Department Store in Lorain as a clerk for 17 years.

Violet enjoyed crossword puzzles and sewing and made many of her own clothes.

She is survived by her sons Frank Merrick and Charles Merrick, both of Lorain, daughter Mary Roberts of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and sister Joan Buckholz of Maumee. She was preceded in death by her second husband Russell Snyder, parents David Silas Thomas and Effie Della Thomas (nee Flint), daughter Thelma E. Bass, 3 grandchildren, sisters Georgia Harrah, Bernice Clark, Icie Schmeiser and Jewell Pierce and brothers Lee Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, David Thomas and Fred Thomas.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 19, 2005, from 4-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Terry Brooks, pastor of Tower Baptist Church of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
