George Mislinski, 82, Known As Mr. Insurance
George Mislinski, age 82, of Sheffield Lake, and formerly of Lorain and Sheffield Village, died Thursday April 21, 2005 following an extended illness.Mr. Mislinski was born April 8, 1923 in Lorain and had been a resident of Sheffield Lake since 1991. He had previously been a resident of Sheffield Village from 1963 to 1991.
A World War II veteran of the United States Navy, George completed military pilot training in Columbus, Ohio, Iowa City, Iowa, and Norman, Oklahoma. He ultimately was assigned to duty as a Naval Air Crewman and Aerial Gunner and was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, The World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
A graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1941-B, he attended Ohio Weslyan University, The Ohio State University, and Iowa University. He was the founder of the Mislinski Insurance Agency, which was formerly located at the corner of West 27th Street, and Broadway Avenue in Lorain. His knowledge and thirty-five years of experience in the insurance industry earned him the nickname of Mr. Insurance amongst his peers.
A parishioner of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake Mr. Mislinski was a private pilot and former member of the Aircraft Owners’ and Pilot’s Association. Since 1966, he was also an active member of the Alcoholics Anonymous Organization. A member of the Alliance of Poles, his main interest was gardening.
George is survived by daughters: Candise Canterbury and Chrysta Vanuch both of Sheffield Village, Cindi Mislinski of Amherst, Camille Romero of Avon, son: Dana of Amherst, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister: Mary Lou Cerveniak of Huron. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean (nee Blair) in 1994 and by his son: Desmond in 2000.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 2005, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church 715 Harris Road Sheffield Lake. The Reverend Stephen L. Shields, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Teresa of Avila Cemetery in Sheffield Village.
