John J. Nemeth, 83, Marine Veteran

John J. Nemeth 83 of Elyria Township died Saturday, April 23, 2005 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 11, 1922 in Lorain. After his retirement from the Marines, he returned to Elyria.

Mr. Nemeth retired in 1971 from the United States Marine Corps as a First Lieutenant. He enlisted in the Marines in 1941. He was a pilot and airplane mechanic in World War II serving in the Pacific theater of war. He also served in Korea and Vietnam. He was also stationed throughout the United States as a flight instructor. He served his country for 30 years.

He was a Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 1662 in Amherst, AMVETS post 37 Lorain, American Legion post 30 Lorain, Marine Corps League Lofton - Henderson Detachment #474, Lorain and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 431 Elyria, OH. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps he also had a 1965 Thunderbird.

Among the survivors are hi wife of 20 years Sue (nee Jones) Nemeth of Elyria Township; daughter Carolyn Cook of Estero, Florida, step son Danny Haid of Lorain and step daughter Debby Horner of Elyria; a sister Violet Nemeth of Lorain and 2 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ester in 1968; his parents Joseph and Susanna (nee Frencsak) Nemeth; brothers Joe, Ernie, Barnie, Willie and Louis.

Friends may call Monday, April 25, 2005, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral service will be Tuesday 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Reverend James R. Ols, Pastor of St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Elyria will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Virginia.
