Hazel Magdalene Overstreet, 82, Enjoyed Gardening and Flowers

Hazel Magdalene Overstreet (nee: Bentley), 82 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

She was born February 23, 1923 in Garrison, Kentucky where she was raised. She moved to Lorain in 1951.

Hazel was a member of the Amherst Church of Nazarene. Her family was the center of her life. She enjoyed serving her family and friends, and also enjoyed gardening, flowers and activities at her church.

Survivors include her daughters Janet Sue Campbell of Amherst, Barbara Ann Thomas of Lorain, and Martha Jean Overstreet of Springhill, Florida; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; her brothers Gene Kennedy of Bella Vista, AR, Glen Kennedy of Warsaw, IN, and Phillip Kennedy of Vanceburg, KY; her sisters Norma Marilyn Reedy of Wilmington, OH, Eldene Spriggs of LaBelle, FL, Pauline Kennedy of Cincinnati, OH, Judy Christian of Columbus, OH, and Marylou Kennedy of Lynch, KY; dearly loved sister and brother-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-four years General Leroy “Jack” Overstreet on September 2, 1977; by her great grandchild Joshua Brooks (Campbell) Kelley; by her father Creed Potter Bentley; by her mother Gladys Irene Bentley-Kennedy (nee: Carver); by her step-father Earl Wayne Kennedy; by her sister Bertha Frieda Bentley in infancy; and by her brothers Carl Wesley “Jack” Bentley, Charles Beecher Bentley and Fred E. Bentley.

Friends may call Thursday, April 28, 2005 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Henry, pastor of the Amherst Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Amherst Church of the Nazarene/Feed the Needy Food Program; 210 Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio 44001 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
