Bernard L. Konowal, 86, Konowal Builders Co-Owner
Bernard L. Konowal, 86, of Amherst Township, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.He was born July 19, 1918 in Joliet, Illinois and had resided in Lorain and Amherst Township since childhood.
Bernard served wit the US Navy during World War II as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater and Aleutian Islands.
He worked for Carpenters Local #305 for 41 years retiring in 1980. During the 1960s, he and his brother Don co-owned Konowal Builders and built many homes on the West Side of Lorain.
Bernard was a member of AMVETS Post #47, Russo-Slav Club, Lorain Masonic Lodge and several gun and hunt clubs.
He is survived by his sons Ron Konowal, Ray Konowal and Robert Konowal, all of Lorain, Richard Konowal of Amherst, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and brother Donald Konowal of New Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene R. Konowal (nee Siegrist) on April 26, 2005, parents Mathau and Mary Ann Konowal (nee Thomann), brothers Robert Konowal and Leonard Konowal and sisters Margaret Furdyn, Sophie Braun and Lorraine Stang.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 N. Ridge Road, Amherst Township with military honors by the VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30 of Lorain.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.
