Mary A. ''Mae'' Marinik, 99, Holy Trinity Chruch Parishioner
Mary A. Mae Marinik (nee Lizak), age 99, died Monday May 2, 2005 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.She had been a resident of Amherst since 1993 coming from Lorain. She was born July 16, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois; Mae married Joseph F. Marinik in Chicago in 1926 and began her married life in Fostoria, Ohio prior to relocating to Lorain in 1932.
Mrs. Marinik was employed in the offices of the J.C. Penney Department Store which was formerly located in downtown Lorain from 1955 to 1965.
She was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society as well as the church Ladies Guild. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector there. She was extremely active in Slovak fraternal organizations as a former member and officer of Saint Ann Lodge Branch # 114 of the First Catholic Ladies Union as well as a member and past president of Saint Mary Magdalene Lodge # 77 of the Ladies Catholic Association. A member of the National Council of Catholic Women, she was also a former member of the Board of Directors at the American Slovak Club Lorain.
Survivors included her son Edward and his wife Barbara residing in Newark, Ohio, daughter Bernadine Doll and her husband Edward currently living in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and daughter Marguerite Fishbaugh and her husband, Dr. William residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. along with ten grandchildren, and twenty-four great grandchildren.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph in 1978, an infant son, a six year old daughter, one grandson, two great granddaughters, by her parents Frank and Matilda (nee Mentel) Lizak along with two sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2005 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain where a rosary service will be conducted by officers and members of the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society, and the Ladies Guild at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2428 Elyria Avenue Lorain,. The Reverend David A. Novak, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the care-givers at Amherst Manor Nursing Home for their kind and loving care to Mae-Mae.
