Sylva Helen Neiding, 88, Active in Catholic Ladies of Columbia

Sylva Helen Neiding (nee: Robinson, 88 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, May 2, 2005 at Kingston Nursing Home.

She was born April 2, 1917 in Sandusky, Ohio. She was raised in the Sandusky area, Lakewood and Huron. She has been a resident of Vermilion since 1934.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at the Lake Erie Drive Inn Restaurant from 1959 to 1969. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion where she was active in the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Sylva was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Vermilion Amvets.

Survivors include her sons James E. and Thomas H. Neiding both of Vermilion; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Harold Edward Neiding on July 16, 1982; by her son Bryce Neiding on February 1, 1987; by her parents John and Louise Robinson (nee: Schuh); and by her sisters Marcella Day and Geraldine Becker.

Friends may call Friday, May 6, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with closing prayers to follow at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Rev. Fr. James Holmer, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Elementary School; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
