Geraldine R. Husar, 74, Owner of Gerry's Old Fashined Ice Cream
Geraldine R. Husar (nee Zech), 74, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at her home in Lorain.She was born on February 28, 1931 in Amherst and lived in this area all of her life.
She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949 and from the Lorain Business College. She worked at the Pearl Theatre in Lorain and also for Evans Builders, Big Town, May Company in Sheffield Center, Edwards and finally retiring from Finast Grocery Store in 1992 after 10 years.
As owner of Gerry’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, she enjoyed attending area festivals. She was also a Ward 8 voting poll worker.
She was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lorain, and had attended St. Peters Church for several years. She was past President, Secretary and Treasurer of ST. Joseph’s Ladies Guild. She was Past President of N.C.C.W. and a member of the N.C.C.W. Past presidents of Cleveland Diocese. She also was a life member of VFW Post 451 Ladies Auxiliary, and the UFCW Local 880. She was a Girl Scout of Troop 5 and later was leader of Nativity BMV Brownies and St. Peter’s Intermediate Scouts. She was Secretary/Historian for the Reising Family Reunion Committee. She enjoyed all types of crafts, and crocheting and traveling.
Survivors include her daughters, Lorraine (Larry) Cassidy, Beverly Husar, and Betty Keith) Lewandowski, all of Lorain, Denise (Martin) Ryan of El Centro, CA, Sandra (Eric) Long, and Cynthia (Jeff) Jannuzzi both of Amherst and son Richard (Lori) Husar of Lorain. Sister, Mrs. Roberta (Jim) Stanchak of Lorain, and brother Conrad (Wilma) Zech of Wakeman. She has 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma (Reising) and Walter Zech of Lorain.
Friends may call Saturday, May 21, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain. St. Joseph Ladies Guild Rosary will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and Christian Wake services will be at 8:15 p.m.
Funeral service will begin Monday, May 23, 2005 with prayers tat 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church. Father Kevin Shemuga will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
