Andrew V. Doychak, 79, Active in Holy Name Society
Andrew V. Doychak, 79, of Lorain, died Sunday May 22, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy illness.He was born July 18, 1925 in Homestead, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain most of his life.
Andy graduated from St. Ladislaus Catholic School and St. Mary High School both in Lorain. He served with the US Marine Corps as a corporal during World War II for 28 months and was in the Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati in 1949 with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science.
Andy worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department for 29 years retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Ladislaus Catholic Church both in Lorain. Andy was very active with the Holy Name Society having been a member of the St. Ladislaus Holy Name Society in which he was past president and Holy Name Man-of-the-Year, the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society where he was a past president and was 2003 Holy Name Man-of-the-Year, past president of the Lorain County Deanery of Holy Name Societies and past president and program chairman of the Cleveland Diocesan Union of Holy Name Societies where he was given the Medallion Circle Award in 1987. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Mass Server at both churches he attended and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #637 where he was a 4th Degree Knight with the Lt. McManus General Assembly. He was a member of VFW Post #451 of Lorain.
Andy enjoyed fishing, reading, stamp collecting and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joan T. Doychak (nee Guettler) of Lorain, daughter Mary Ann Doychak of Fairview Park, son Andrew Doychak of Auburn, Washington, daughter Regina Ireland of O’Fallon, Illinois and son Joseph Doychak of Westlake, 6 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Mary Dojcsak (nee Timko) and brothers Steven Doychak and Vincent Doychak .
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 24, 2005 from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society will pray the rosary Tuesday at 3:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
